IPods or IRivers which is affordable/accessible?

I'm asking this because I'm looking for something to hold all of my music. I hear both IPod and IRiver MP3 players are becoming more and more affordable. My cousin owns a IPod and said "To be able to hold all of your music without the need of carrying CDs makes life much easier." So I'm thinking of getting one that can hold alot of music. I am not familiar with terms of memory for music as this is my first time. So who's got a IPod or a IRiver and how much did it cost? How much memory did you get with yours and where did you buy yours?

I love the idea of backing up all of my music onto CDs but it gets to be time consuming and I want something for when I'm traveling or at someone else's house and want something to listen to. I'm thinking of getting two; one for when I'm on the road and another for at home.

I use an Iriver 5 gig and love the thing. I didn't buy the IPOD because I do use the windows media format WMA because I buy from walmart.com. IPods don't play that format. You can convert things to mp3 and then put it on the IPOD but lazy me didn't want to do that. If you are storing all of your music you probably want something large

I bought my iRiver last January for 250 English pounds from advancedmp3players.com and that came with everything - remote, mic, headphones, charger, portable charger and a protective case and all the cables. I got the H340 which a 40 GB. You can use it as a external harddrive and rockbox plays most formats. It's plug and play so you can take to friends' and just plug it inn with no installation. The prices have gone down but you can look into Arcos players. I am really happy with my iRiver, I take it most places. I have heard that iPods have dodgy batteries and they burn out within a year and you have to send the whole thing to Apple to get the battery change, or you could take the chance and soulder the battery in yourself :) iPods look good but that is about it!

Ipods are over priced due to there name.
a 8 gb nano will set you back £169 whilst a 30 gb video will cost £180, if you want to spend a bit more then why not splash out on a 80 gb video ipod coming in at £245?
Na ipods are ok but you'll want to put rockbox on which ever player you get from rockbox.org; i have heard mixed things about this.
On the other hand irivers are cheaper and i kno quite a few blind people that are happy with the iriver h140 (40 gb) but this is not made more, so you'll have to ebay it.
It has been said that i rivers feel much nicer than ipods and are more acsessable.
And lets not talk about the zune atm.
BEN.

I have a 4G iPod. I have the smaller 20GB model, which at the time was $299. The one it was replaced with, a 30GB model is $249, so thre's a considerable price decrease. To me, the interface right out of the box feels great, as long as somebody will sit down and run through the menus with you, and as long as your songs are tagged well. iTunes is a pain, but there are workarounds for that, such as Winamp and Anapod Explorer.

As for Rockbox on the iPod, I haven't tried it yet, so couldn't tell you how well it does.
Irivers, in my opinion, are too big. They feel like bricks compared to the iPod, and yeah, let's not talk about the Zune.

Let's talk about the Zune! has anyone seen one yet and can anyone offer thoughts about it's accessibillity? Does it offer clicks so that one can find where they are in the menu? As far as Irivers being clunky they are not. They also aren't as slim as IPods but they are definately a solid feeling unit. the H10 5 gig has a replaceable battery.

I just bought an IRiver H10 20 gig MP3 player on eBay... and i's arriving shortly in the mail (merry Christmas to myself!)
I paid $165us which includes shipping, and I look forward to receiving it. I will let you know how accessible it is when I get it.
For what it's worth... a friend of mine works at a large retail store that sells things such as IPods, and every time we talk about MP3 players with each other or anyone else, he's like, "Don't get an IPod, don't get an IPod." The reason everyone has them is because the name's out there all the time; great advertising ploy.
Thanks,
Kate

No Apple is keeping the Pod's under their directives. Quality is a concern.
